Eugenio Coccia. Professor of Physics of fundamental interactions and dean of the Gran Sasso Science Institute in L’Aquila. He is one of the brains behind the discovery of gravitational waves and observation of black holes. Pupil of Edoardo Amaldi, he supervised the experiments to research gravitational waves at CERN in Geneva and at INFN laboratories in Frascati. He has been Director of INFN Laboratories of Gran Sasso for several years. In 2015 he was elected member honoris causa of Academia Europaea.
